AVAILABILITY, SHE IS LIMITED

Availability, She Is Limited

I decided to get all limited edition this week and make a few of the "Reynard The Fox" drawings I've been doing for sale in my shop until Sunday night.
After that, the rest will all probably end up on my Mom's refrigerator. And to be clear, they're original 1-of-1 drawings. Prints won't be happening.

Available this week only at shop.christopherberryltd.com

FRITZ, THE FOX, AND I

Fritz, The Fox & I (Mine)

Fritz, The Fox, and I (Mine) // April 2018

Why all the foxes? Okay, shut up I'll explain the foxes.

I was introduced to Fritz Eichenberg by accident. I didn't officially study illustration in an institution like Pratt or the University of Rhode Island, where he headed art departments through his career. A 23-year old version of myself stumbled upon his plates in a copy of Goethe's "Reineke Fuchs" at a Seattle used bookstore in 2004. That 23-year old version of myself probably had a few Sunday lunch beers, so stumbling seems like the correct descriptor.

In the intervening [inaudible]-teen years, I've drawn hundreds of variations around his phenomenal "Reynard The Fox" prints for myself. Not so much for the eyes of anyone else.

So the fox. I don't consider the fox a mood-setter exactly. Not the basis of another drawing either. The fox is like how a musician with nothing just plays a D-minor just to hear something. Or a writer without a story yet just starts tapping out a description of the room they're in. There's this major thing left out of those lame "work hard" creative inspiration quotes on designer's walls. That art and creativity aren't fun 90% of the time. Because those are the times you're starting, you dislike yourself for not having anything new to say, and you lack the luxury of blaming your badness that day on a confusing client or exhaustion.

And let me be clear: I am certainly no Fritz Eichenberg. He was a master engraver and educator and I'd love it if you'd searched him out today. He left a brilliant wake. For me personally, Mr. Eichenberg and his fox hold my aimless hands through the self-pity stage. I draw the fox when there's no place to start. And when I'm lucky, I'm somewhere else before the whiskers are on his chin. Maybe not. But this year I decided to let myself indulge in the beginning of the process for a while. So I'm sharing the foxes and their inspiration.

Okay, I'm done. Go make something. Don't dislike yourself. Love you. Bye.

YOU PLAY ENTIRELY TOO MUCH

You Play Entirely Too Much

You Play Entirely Too Much // April 2018

Okay here's what happened: I made a really, really good uppercase 'Q' yesterday. I didn't know what to do with it and things obviously got out of hand. The irony here is I would've gotten a lot more errands done last night had I not been playing entirely too much.

There are prints and products available through my Society6 shop today. And every day. That sounded really finite, didn't it? Sorry.
