SUMMER /// 2018

SUMMER /// 2018

I've always thought people picking their desert island songs were being completely impractical. I mean, how long is a radio hit? You're supposed to be on the island for-goddamn-ever. At least pick a live version of "Born to Run". What, you got something else going on? Stretch it out. Jesus. Anyway.

This mix isn't desert island songs. It is pretty long though. We've got to be prepared. Just in case this is finally the glorious SUMMER OF CHRIS that lasts forever.

BEE-EYE-EN-GEE-OH

Bee-eye-en-gee-oh

I was trying to figure out whether one could paint with bingo dabbers. But now I find out they’re called “daubers” and the world is upside down.

WELL, YES AND NO.

In the eternal demo stage, I do something and ask myself days later if all the noises fit together. But days later me never has a hard answer.

Friday, May 18, 2018

OKAY, YES.

Okay, yes.

Okay, yes. It is an illustration of myself making this illustration.

What? I don’t tell you how to run your goddamn feed.

Well, I’ll start with the bad news. I hate watercolor paper and don’t see any future using it. The good news? I have hundreds of goddamn pages of it.

AVAILABILITY, SHE IS LIMITED

Availability, She Is Limited

I decided to get all limited edition this week and make a few of the "Reynard The Fox" drawings I've been doing for sale in my shop until Sunday night.
After that, the rest will all probably end up on my Mom's refrigerator. And to be clear, they're original 1-of-1 drawings. Prints won't be happening.

Available this week only at shop.christopherberryltd.com

FRITZ, THE FOX, AND I

Fritz, The Fox & I (Mine)

Fritz, The Fox, and I (Mine) // April 2018

Why all the foxes? Okay, shut up I'll explain the foxes.

I was introduced to Fritz Eichenberg by accident. I didn't officially study illustration in an institution like Pratt or the University of Rhode Island, where he headed art departments through his career. A 23-year old version of myself stumbled upon his plates in a copy of Goethe's "Reineke Fuchs" at a Seattle used bookstore in 2004. That 23-year old version of myself probably had a few Sunday lunch beers, so stumbling seems like the correct descriptor.

In the intervening [inaudible]-teen years, I've drawn hundreds of variations around his phenomenal "Reynard The Fox" prints for myself. Not so much for the eyes of anyone else.

So the fox. I don't consider the fox a mood-setter exactly. Not the basis of another drawing either. The fox is like how a musician with nothing just plays a D-minor just to hear something. Or a writer without a story yet just starts tapping out a description of the room they're in. There's this major thing left out of those lame "work hard" creative inspiration quotes on designer's walls. That art and creativity aren't fun 90% of the time. Because those are the times you're starting, you dislike yourself for not having anything new to say, and you lack the luxury of blaming your badness that day on a confusing client or exhaustion.

And let me be clear: I am certainly no Fritz Eichenberg. He was a master engraver and educator and I'd love it if you'd searched him out today. He left a brilliant wake. For me personally, Mr. Eichenberg and his fox hold my aimless hands through the self-pity stage. I draw the fox when there's no place to start. And when I'm lucky, I'm somewhere else before the whiskers are on his chin. Maybe not. But this year I decided to let myself indulge in the beginning of the process for a while. So I'm sharing the foxes and their inspiration.

Okay, I'm done. Go make something. Don't dislike yourself. Love you. Bye.

You Play Entirely Too Much // April 2018

Okay here's what happened: I made a really, really good uppercase 'Q' yesterday. I didn't know what to do with it and things obviously got out of hand. The irony here is I would've gotten a lot more errands done last night had I not been playing entirely too much.

There are prints and products available through my Society6 shop today. And every day. That sounded really finite, didn't it? Sorry.

Opening day is close enough for me. So here is a mixtape with the word "SPRING" on it. I'll get snowed in within two days because the weather gods think it's their job to kill my vibe. But the joke's on them, they aren't even real.

And total transparency: I have this involuntary reaction where I consider how to draw someone's dog the moment I meet it. You're looking at a rare instance that I actually do it.

Before, I Guess... // 2.22.18

I feel I should like to extend my thanks to Amanda Clark and mono for introducing me to yet another way to get ink all over the place.

These are a pair of monoprints that I tried on a press at Hightpoint Center for Printmaking. I've been told I could likely draw overtop of them. So we'll consider these the 'before'... I guess.

THE GREAT PAPER CLEARING OF 2018

The Great Paper Clearing of 2018

To make way for a new year of my hand-drawn frameable catastrophes, the warehouse... well... warecloset... waretable? The place with the all wares is ready for a sale of stack moving proportions. For the next month I'll be offering up four lovely wall coverers for $40 of those American-style dollars. That price is kind of nuts, but such is my desire to get them into your domicile.

Included:

"The Sack Of Rome (Loosely Reenacted" (16" x 20"/2 Color Screen Print)

"Go Outside" (18" x 24"/3 Color Screen Print)

"Disable Notifications" (18" x 24"/2 Color Screen Print)

"El-P Gig Poster" (16" x 20"/2 Color Lithograph)

Also stickers and possibly a written note. Definitely rambling. So look forward to that.

WINTER /// 2018

I know the words 'Polar Vortex' come from Latin, but I'm unclear on the original meaning. From recent first-hand experience, I believe it meant "indoor activities". But don't quote me. Anyway, another mix for for your various upcoming vortices.
