HOUND//HOUSE

Hound//House

When the stars align at a Basset/Greyhound rescue, make sure you have a camera ready.

The short fellow is my parent's dog, Clancy. Look at those weird little legs. This is what happens when French hunters start playing God.

I've yet to name the two-headed vomiting deer. Taking my cues from Mary Shelley, I'm between "Abhorred devil," "Dæmon," or "It."

CUE THE YAKITY SAX

ILIKEYOU.015

The caption is a text message I received from Nick Carter:

"In Tim Tebow's attic, there's a picture of Jimmy Clausen."

I assume he sent me that message while drinking a glass of iced champagne. How drole.

City By The Lake

I've been combining recent obsessions into illustration. Here we have the Collage & the Holga.

They worked together slightly better than Korean food and Faulkner.

Fermented cabbage and southern decay, who knew?

A PLAY OF ST. GEORGE

ILIKEYOU.012

ILIKEYOU.012

This is a sketchbook I received as a graduation gift from my good friend Chad Verly. He gave the book to me when we left Richmond, VA and it's lasted a long time without being filled in. The trouble with working in a book this beautiful is that I can't bear to waste a single page. Which is why I've barely worked in it at all.

I'm making it my mission to cover every remaining page this winter.

PROGRESS, CHAPTER 3: LEXOPHILE©

Lexophile: Pt. 1

As with many typography experiments, this one has slowly evolved into an illegible and painfully useless typeface. "Lexophile" will have its coming out party with this post and then it will probably never be spoken of again.

It was created with the best of intentions. I wanted a proper face to express love for my favorite words & phrases. One could say they became "valentines to the english language." One would also be me. And one would also be a nerd who needs to come up with some better ideas.

"Call The Cops" made me laugh, but in the end this typeface just became another monument to typo-futility. I'm going to work on something else for a while.

IIIII LOVE... LIVIN-IN-THE-CITY

It's probably the only thing that Lee Ving and I agree on.

Of course, city dwelling hasn't done much for my portfolio. Space is expensive. Even the kind of law-bending and unlivable space needed to screen print ink onto paper is expensive. So while I continue my search for workspace this month, I'm going to have to post some old pieces:

The first two posters above were completed at NORTH. The third was completed at Hammerquist & Nebeker.

THE SEIZURE PORTRAIT

My good friend, Marc D'Avignon.

Marc is actually not the first bearded writer to get his own post on this web-based-log, though there's safe money on him being the first to induce epileptic fits.

Let his beard guide you on a spirit journey through the internet.

GIMME DANGER, STRANGER

Monotonix, Tel Aviv's loudest band recently brought their ferocious live show to the 2008 Hideout Block Party.

This photo set is my first experiment with cross-processing. Not to mention with a completely untested Diana F+. She's like the Aaron Rodgers of concert photography.

YOU GOT NO RULES, HOLGA! YOU GOT NO RULES!

YOU GOT NO RULES, HOLGA! YOU GOT NO RULES!

I recently introduced my D60 to his new partner: Holga.

D60 is high-tech, calm, and cool under pressure. Holga? He's a street-smart hustler who plays by his own rules. Here's an exchange between Holga and a recent subject:

Holga: Can you swim?

Subject: Yes.

(Holga punches subject into Lake Michigan)

Holga: Click.

AN EXERCISE IN SELF-AWARENESS

An Exercise In Self-Awareness, 1

Self-portraits, guuuh...

Sorry, I can't say/write the words self-portraaah guuuh... without passing out from boredom. I think it's because they remind me of art classes and charcoal sticks.

The above illustration was done a year ago. My self-imposed assignment for august was to create a few decent self-guuuhhh...

THE VIEW FROM MY IVORY TOWER

The View From My Ivory Tower

After a busy week, I'm finally testing out my new camera. Still no official decision on what I'm going to name it. As of this afternoon it's a stalemate between "Lensface" & "SOULSTEALER©."

A few shots from the sprawling I Like You Graphik campus.
